PRIVACY POLICY

We're Knock Twice Studio (Little Business LLC), a small design studio in Brooklyn. This policy explains what we collect when you use knocktwice.studio, why we collect it, and what your choices are. We've tried to write it the way we'd explain it in person.

If anything here is unclear, email us at hello@knocktwice.studio.

THE SHORT VERSION

  • We collect the minimum we need to sell you a product and stay in touch if you want us to.
  • We don't run ads, we don't sell your data, and we don't share it with anyone except the handful of services we need to actually run the shop (payments, shipping, email).
  • Checkout happens on Shopify's servers, not ours, so your card details never touch our site.
  • You can ask us what we have about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Just email.

WHAT WE COLLECT

When you buy something. Your name, shipping address, email, and order details. Shopify handles the payment itself, so we never see or store your full card number, just the last four digits and card brand for our records.

When you email us or use the contact form. Whatever you send us: your name, email, and the contents of your message.

When you sign up for the mailing list. Your email address, and the date you signed up. That's it.

When you browse the site. Our host may log basic request information (IP address, browser, timestamp) for security and troubleshooting, the way most websites do. We don't have Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any other tracking tools installed.

We don't collect anything considered "sensitive" under privacy laws (health data, precise location, biometrics, etc.), and we don't buy data about you from anyone else.

COOKIES & SIMILAR TECHNOLOGY

We keep this light. Here's what's actually running:

  • Cart memory. If you add a product to your cart and come back later, it's still there. That's Shopify's cart layer using a cookie or local storage in your browser to remember your selection on your device. It doesn't identify you personally.
  • Checkout. When you click "check out," you're handed off to Shopify's checkout on shop.app. Shopify sets its own cookies there to process your order securely. Their privacy notice covers that piece: shopify.com/legal/privacy
  • Security basics. Our web host may set standard cookies to keep the site up and block bad traffic.

We don't use cookies for advertising, re-targeting, or building a profile of you. If your browser is set to block cookies, the site will still work, you just won't have a persistent cart.

You can clear cookies and local storage anytime in your browser settings.

HOW WE USE WHAT WE COLLECT

  • To process your order and get it to you.
  • To email you order confirmations, shipping updates, and answer your questions.
  • To send you the newsletter, if you signed up. You can unsubscribe anytime — every email has a link at the bottom.
  • To keep the site running and secure.
  • To meet our legal obligations (sales tax, accounting, responding to lawful requests).

We don't use your information to make automated decisions about you.

WHO WE SHARE IT WITH

We work with a few services to run the shop. Each one only gets what they need:

  • Shopify — payment processing and order data. shopify.com/legal/privacy
  • Google (Gmail) — where our email lives, including order confirmations and any correspondence with you. policies.google.com/privacy
  • Our shipping carrier (USPS, UPS, or FedEx depending on the order) — just what they need to deliver the package.
  • Our web host — serves the site.

We may also share information if we're legally required to (a subpoena, a court order), or if we ever sell or transfer the business, in which case your information would move with it and you'd be notified.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers.

HOW LONG WE KEEP IT

  • Order records: at least seven years, because tax and accounting rules require it.
  • Email correspondence: as long as it's useful, generally a few years.
  • Mailing list: until you unsubscribe, then we remove you.

YOUR CHOICES

You can:

  • Ask us what personal information we have about you.
  • Ask us to correct something that's wrong.
  • Ask us to delete it (though we may have to keep order records for tax reasons).
  • Ask us to send you a copy of it.
  • Unsubscribe from the newsletter anytime.

Depending on where you live — California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and a growing list of other states have their own privacy laws — you may have additional rights, like the right to opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of your data (we don't do either), or to appeal a decision we make. Just email us and we'll take care of it. We don't discriminate against people who exercise these rights.

To make any of these requests, email hello@knocktwice.studio with "Privacy request" in the subject line. We'll get back to you within 30 days.

KIDS

The site isn't for anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect information from minors. If you think a child has given us their information, email us and we'll delete it.

SECURITY

We take reasonable steps to protect your information — HTTPS across the site, limiting who at the studio can see what, using well-established services like Shopify and Google for the sensitive parts. No system is perfectly secure, but we treat your data the way we'd want ours treated.

WHERE WE OPERATE

We're a US business selling only to US customers. Your data is stored and processed in the United States.

CHANGES

If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top and, for bigger changes, note it on the site or email people on the mailing list.
